Delta has again been recognized as one of America’s Most Sustainable Companies by Barron’s, an influential business publication that covers finance and markets. Delta comes in at the No. 1 U.S. airline, and No. 39 among the 1,000 companies observed in five key categories: shareholders, employees, customers, community, and planet.
Barron’s relied on Calvert Research and Management to analyze the 1,000 largest U.S. public companies by market value. To calculate the ratings, Calvert considered more than 230 key performance indicators that address environmental, social and corporate governance issues, such as workplace diversity, data, security and greenhouse-gas emissions. Some highlights of Delta’s ongoing sustainability and social responsibility efforts:
- Voluntarily capping emissions at 2012 levels even with 20 percent growth.
- Reducing overall emissions by 9 percent since 2005, working towards its long-term goal of reducing emissions by 50 percent by 2050.
- Giving back 1 percent of Delta’s net income from the previous year to charitable organizations, as well as, for the first time in 2019, paying all 90,000 employees to spend a day of service to their communities.
- Expanding its leadership in the fight against human trafficking, with enhanced employee training and community partnerships.
- Achieving and maintaining employee gender pay equity at 100 percent.
- Record $1.6 billion profit sharing for Delta’s 90,000 employees.
- Being awarded the Vision for America Award by Keep America Beautiful in 2017 and the Captain Planet Foundation’s Superhero Corporate Award in 2018, as well as being named to the FTSE4Good Index five consecutive years and the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index nine consecutive years.
